Stone cladding is typically a combination of large, individually sized stones. Sometimes, they may vary in thickness and may include cornices or other stones that stand out from the general line of the cladding. The support for the stonework is usually positioned over the horizontal movement joint on each floor level and over openings.<\/p>\n

The most efficient method is to position individual belt supports at the vertical joint between two adjacent stones. Alternatively, two smaller supports can be placed near each end of each stone. Support for the cornice and other particularly large stones will require special attention.<\/p>\n

Design Considerations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The design of the stone cladding must comply with Code of Practice BS 8298: 2010 for the design and installation of natural stone cladding and facing. The minimum bearing on the support is generally 50% of the stone\u2019s thickness. A single support bearing two stones must be at least 75 mm long. CFA \/ S<\/strong><\/h3>\n

These are individual brackets designed to accommodate a mounting screw on the vertical leg. Dimensions are selected to suit the application. The brackets can also be supplied with a lip or dowels to secure the base of each stone (Ref. CFA \/ SL or CFA \/ SD).<\/p>\n

CFA \/ SC<\/strong><\/h3>\n

They are similar to the CFA \/ S, but the lower leg is angled at 15\u02da to provide restraint where the bracket must be positioned above the base of the stone. MDC\/S facade brackets are based on the MDC masonry support system. The height and depth of the bracket vary depending on the size of the cavity and the loads. The dimensions of the angle are selected to suit the masonry to be supported.<\/p>\n

Design variations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The MDC\/S Bracket can be supplied in a variety of configurations to suit a specific application.
\nIt features a stop to restrict the base of each stone; the MDC\/SC has the lower leg of the angle inclined at 15\u02da to provide restriction where the support must be positioned above the base of the stone.<\/p>\n

Adjustment<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The serrated and slotted face of the MDC\/S support allows for vertical adjustment. The built-in channel provides horizontal adjustment, but since mounting positions can be difficult to predetermine, expansion bolts are typically used. Shims may be inserted between the bracket and the structure up to a maximum thickness of the outer diameter of the mounting bolt, or 16 mm, whichever is less.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″]\t\t

Ancon Soffit Fastener<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ancon Soffit fasteners provide a simple and secure method for fixing thin slabs. This heavy-duty support and retaining fastener consists of a stainless steel head and bolt and is quick and easy to install. The disc fastener is fully adjustable and capable of withstanding a safe working load of 600 N in tension.
